Civil society has lodged a written complaint against the painting of a part of the 85 years old Vidhan Sabha building (state council house) by the Estate Department of the Mayawati-led government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) state in India.
Magsaysay Awardee (2002) Dr Sandeep Pandey was part of the delegation to the UP state Governor TV Rajeshwar. Dr Pandey is also a member of the national presidium to Lok Rajniti Manch (People's Politics Front - PPF). He submitted a memorandum to the state Governor signed by social activist Naveen Tiwari, retired Director-General of Police Ishwar Chandra Dwivedi, retired Inspector-General of Police SR Darapuri (Lok Rajniti Manch candidate from Lucknow parliamentary constituency 2009), retired IAS SN Shukla, and retired Justice Kamleshwar Nath.
The painted portion stands on the left of the main building facing Bapu Bhawan. The portion, say historians, is as old as the main building and it was always painted peach to match the stones of the former.
"We, the citizens of Lucknow, would like to register our protest with the way in which the exterior of Vidhan Sabha building is being shamelessly altered. It is a threat to the historic building as well as it is destroying the asthetic beauty of this building" said the memorandum delivered by Dr Sandeep Pandey to the state Governor TV Rajeshwar.
"The State Government is already indulging in arbitrary acts of construction of various monuments, after demolishing other constructions – old and new – and felling green trees, which have become illegal after the repeal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal Act, 2007, by the Vidhan Sabha itself. This act of painting the Vidhan Sabha building is part of the larger sinister plan to change the landscape of the city for no valid reason" said the memorandum further.
"We request you to bring this madness to a stop and preserve the cultural heritage of the city as well as save scarce resources of public exchequer which ought to be spent on things more pressing" appealed the citizens' memorandum to the Governor.
In another news published in The Indian Express, historian Yogesh Pravin said "Lucknowites are hurt by the action of the government". The blueprint of the building, he said, was prepared in the early 1920s by well-known architect Swinton Jacob in the Roman-cum-Gothic style. The foundation of the building was laid by Sir Harcourt Butler in 1922 and it was built by the end-1920s. "It is the face of Lucknow and I have never heard of, read about or seen any portion of it being painted white. This is as good as killing the beauty of the structure," Pravin added (source: The Indian Express).
The UP State President of the Indian National Congress, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who is also contesting the Lok Sabha seat from the prestigious Lucknow parliamentary constituency this year, has waged a campaign to protect the historical Vidhan Sabha building. She also led a delegation to the state Governor of which Dr Sandeep Pandey was a part of.

NMMC Hospital foundation ceremony
ReplyDeleteThane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik performed the bhumipujan ceremony of the NMMC 100 beds hospitals coming up at Nerul and Airoli.
The NMMC is finally going to begin construction of two 100 beds Mother Child Hospitals in Airoli and Vashi as Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik performed the bhumipujan ceremony of both the hospitals. Both the hospitals will be constructed by Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd. The 100 beds Mother – Child Care Hospital in Sector 15, Nerul will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 33 Crores 74 lacs 83 Thousand 539 in a time period of 28 months. While the 100 beds Mother – Child Care Hospital in Sector 3, Airoli will be constructed by Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd. for Rs. 34 Crores 69 lacs 15 thousand 455 in a time period of 20 months. There are many middle class families living in Nerul and Airoli who during any medical emergencies had to either rush to the hospital at Vashi or private hospitals. These two hospitals will bring relief to them. A blood storage centre was also inaugurated at hospital. Speaking to the media, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik credited the Commissioner for taking the initiative for the hospitals.
The other dignitaries present during the bhumipujan ceremonies included MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik, Mayor of Navi Mumbai Anjani Bhoir, NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik and Navi Mumbai Congress Chief Namdeo Bhagat.
Standing Committee takes up dissussion of Swine Flu
ReplyDeleteStanding Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik walked in the standing committee meeting hall. Chairman Sandeep Naik shared with members why he and the Commissioner called late by 15 minutes. He acknowledged the fact that Chairman Sandeep Naik proposed discussions on swine flu first.
Chairman Sandeep Naik addressed the criticality of swine flu and the need to impart the right information to the corporators and citizens to ensure that fear was not created but at the same time precautions were taken. He said that it was needed that the corporation should have its own stock of medicines and masks for swine flu for any emergency.
Redevelopment of old buildings in city
ReplyDeleteThe long wait is finally over. As promised by Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik last week, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan sanctioned some key, long-pending issues that were bothering residents of Navi Mumbai for long.
The main issue remains the sanctioning of additional FSI of 2.5 for residents of JN1 and JN2 buildings in Vashi and permission to rebuild these dilapidated structures, some of which need urgent repairs.
Residents of JN1 and JN2 are rejoicing over the announcement made by state government. Ex-corporator Kishore Patkar said, "It was a long-pending proposal and residents of these buildings were waiting for last 15 years for a decision in this matter. We are indebted to Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik who kept his word and followed up on the matter regularly."
Water mgmt award for Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC)
ReplyDeleteFor the second consecutive year, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has bagged the National Urban Water Award 2009 for excellence in water management and service to urban poor.
The award was instituted by the Government of India in 2008. The award, instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), is aimed at honouring urban local governments and water boards that had taken significant steps towards effective water management and improvement in service delivery.It was only befitting that Sandeep Naik received the award, since he was instrumental in getting the pipelines laid to bring the water to the city, the dam for which was envisioned by his father Ganesh Naik in early 2000 and the plan was executed by his older brother Sanjeev Naik, who was then the Mayor of Navi Mumbai, despite much opposition from all quarters.

NMMC's achievements in water management and waste management
ReplyDeleteNMMC won the award for providing round-the-clock water supply to the city, even in slums and gaothan areas at lower rate and curbing wastage of the precious resource. Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nahata and Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik accepted the award on behalf of the civic body.Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy, Secretary of Urban Development Ministry Dr M Ramchandran and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.Over 90 nominations from various cities across the country were received for the award this year.

How would you describe you’re self?
I consider myself a Go-getter not for my sake, but for those around me and society. I keep exploring new and innovative ideas and do my best to implement them. I can never sit idle.
You have always said that your father, state minister Ganesh Naik , is your inspiration . What do you admire about him?
His dedicate to social work and constant Endeavour to do good for the society and help the people in need is what I have always admired . His secular credentials that has ensured peace in the region even during the worst testing times are very inspiring .I admire his stamina. He never seems tired, He has been my best teacher.
Sandeep Naik have taken several important decisions for the city which have fructified. What would you consider your major achievement so far?

• Deaf and Dump school for the physically handicapped student at Rabale
• Eco –friendly artificial pond for Ganpati immersion at kopri village
• Common work common wages for 3200 contract workers
• Conversion of overhead electrical wiring into under ground wiring in 44 villages of the city
• Free crematorium services in the city
• Ensured the passage of a resolution to not increase water , property and Cess charges in the city as per the promise of honorable guardian minister Ganesh Naik who has assured it for the next 25 years
• Laying of Morbe dam water pipeline from Kalaboli to Dighe
• Concretization of 14 km Thane – Balapur road, which is considered one of the best in the country.
• Sanction of 52 crore children park project in Narul

Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik as the NCP candidate for the Balapur constituency
ReplyDeleteThe Belapur seat fell in NCP’s kitty as the Congress leaders had no credibility and credentials to impress the high commands in terms of voters or work done in comparison to Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. Even if one were to go by numbers in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation ,the NCP has 31 seats while the Congress has just 4. Sanjeev Naik has a lead of over 19000 votes in Belapur against his nearest Shiv Sena rival Vijay Chougule and over 14000 votes in Airoli. However, Vishwarath Nayar feels in assembly elections that both Belapur and Airoli seats are equally tough and equally easy. And what about the independents? They won’t play any decisive role in the electoral results says Vishwarath Nayar. In both the seats, it is going to be the ability as a leader, work done factor and promises in the future .

Rajasthani community is one of the many communities who are witness to the peace and security that Ganesh Naik has provided them as a guardian for villagers and migrants.

Thane Belapur Highway Project nearing completion

Yet, there has been no compromise on the standard and quality of construction of the highway The quality of construction of this highway was proved when despite the diversion of Mumbra highway traffic to this road, the additional load did not have any effect on it. To ensure long lasting quality of work, NMMC Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Naik himself inspected the road work regularly and issued orders accordingly to NMMC officials.
